Monday marks the start of the Global Week of Action! Throughout the week, Control Arms members and partners will be undertaking a variety of activities to call attention to the upcoming second Diplomatic Conference, scheduled to open at the United Nations on 18 March.
The theme of the week is the ‘missing pieces’ that are still needed to ensure that the Treaty will be a strong one. There is now a draft treaty text, which is a positive step forward. But in order for it to be a strong treaty that will set high international standards, governments that are serious about controlling the arms trade must make sure that the loopholes in the draft treaty text are closed.
This is the message the coalition members and partners will be reinforcing throughout the week of action. Activities will be taking place in around 20 countries and will include press conferences, advocacy and public awareness stunts.
