Control Arms and also engaged new potential partners and members as part of the #ArmsFreeAfrica campaign. The day’s sessions reviewed the status of the Treaty across the countries represented, and planned ways to increase universalisation. Discussion focused around how to strengthen the Control Arms Coalition in the subregion as well as concrete steps to be taken towards raising the profile of armed violence and the work of Control Arms members, and increasing the number of African States Parties and supporting implementation. Another important theme that emerged from the meeting was the need to promote the linkages between local gun violence and conflict and international legal mechanisms.
