As part of the “100 Days of Speaking Out!”, a countdown to the treaty negotiations, Control Arms will regularly feature stories and profiles of different people who support a bulletproof ATT.
Last Friday, the president of Amnesty International Catalonia, Maria Cañadas, and the director of Fundació per la Pau, (Peace Foundation) Jordi Armadans, appeared in the Cooperation Commission of the Catalan Parliament to expose their worries and recommendations on the adoption of an Arms Trade Treaty that regulates the international arms trade and asked for the support of the Parliament.
The deputies of the different parliamentarian groups were interested by the process and did some considerations and questions. They also expressed publicly their support to a resolution proposal where the Parliament urges the Catalan Government to make the necessary procedures with the Spanish Government to ask it to support a robust and binding Arms Trade Treaty. They also agreed to do an institutional declaration during the week of 11 June, the Global Week of Action on Armed Violence.
