Germany has officially announced that they will be signing the Arms Trade Treaty on June 3rd at the United Nations in New York.

The treaty will be signed by Guido Westerwelle, Foreign Minister of Germany. Upon the Treaty’s adoption last month he stated that, “For the first time internationally binding rules for arms exports have been agreed. This is a milestone for our global endeavours to advance arms control and security.”

The German government has been a very strong supporter of the ATT since the beginning of the process. There are high expectations for the Federal German Parliament along the German Federal Council to ratify the treaty very soon as well.
