Momentum continues as a new country has added its name to the
growing list of Arms Trade Treaty signatories. On 10 September, H.E. Mr. Vladimir Lupan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Moldova signed on the ATT on behalf of his country.

Moldova holds significant stockpiles of small arms and light weapons (SALW), an item marked as a major victory when it was included in the scope of the Arms Trade Treaty’s for the July 2012 Diplomatic Conference on the ATT. Moldova is primarily an importer of conventional weapons. It’s largest trading partner is Italy, which today fulfilled half of the country’s ratification process when the lower house of the their legislature unanimously passed an authorization bill.

Moldova becomes the 35th European country to sign the Arms Trade Treaty.
